spring? was that you?
new exhibition at goca, a new blog, and a special birthday
first days of spring?
there is little better than the first handful of warm days in a year. that brief window when you can finally step outside in just a t-shirt, the sun warming your skin after months of hiding under a heavy coat. the energy shifts, the air smells clean, the increasing bird activity is audible and everyone just seems to walking a bit lighter. we got a taste of that last week before the weather snapped back. just a false spring, as it seems we have some winter left to endure. to keep that warmth alive, here are two of my favorite recent film photographs that capture that warm spring feeling.
in this month’s newsletter i’ll share the latest exhibition opening i covered at the goca gallery, my newest blog post about how photography doesn’t have to control your wedding day, and some moments from a special birthday.
beyond the archetype
this month i captured the opening of goca’s latest exhibition, beyond the archetype. this show focuses on the historical formation of "archetypes" while fluidly examining their boundaries, offering a panoramic visualization of the underlying frameworks of life, nation, and culture. the show features sculptures rooted in traditional japanese arts and culture, and paintings using historical ink’s and papers.
the show is now on view through april 23rd. below are some of my favorite images from opening night.
stop performing: photography so you can actually enjoy your wedding
in my latest blog post, i’ll describe the difference a documentary styled wedding photographer can make on your wedding day, compared to a traditional wedding photographer. how we can capture authentic storytelling without ever making you feel like you’re on a set. because i believe the best photos don’t happen when you’re posing; they happen when you’re actually having the time of your life.

a special birthday
sometimes the most important job of a photographer is simply to show up and document the quiet, steady presence of a family. for this recent birthday session, the air was filled with a deep sense of togetherness and the kind of laughter that carries a bit more weight than usual. it wasn’t about posing for the camera, but about capturing the way a husband and father looks at the people who mean everything to him. these frames are a reminder that there is a profound beauty in just being there for one another. here are a few of my favorite photos from the day.
